MAIJA MENEE KOULUUN
MAIJA GOES TO SCHOOL
It was a terrible shock when it was the reading lesson. They had learned to spell, and I wondered what happened when they started speaking so weirdly. The teacher was also speaking weirdly. I didn't understand anything. I thought that I'm not going to come here tomorrow.
Then the next lesson was the famous counting lesson. I remember so well how I was in a total panic. And about the counting I understood something at least.
And the next lesson was writing, and it was quite fun. But by the end of the day the lesson at four o’clock was crafting. And we were given silk paper which we had to start ripping and fingering and glue it on a cardboard. I questioned why we had to first rip and finger something and then put it back together. It would have been whole if we hadn’t done anything to it. And then the teacher said I should go home and ask my sister if she could teach me to spell. I knew the letters and I figured out by myself what the words ment.
And the mathbook was called Maalaiskansakoulun laskentokirja (mathematics book a long time ago). The first question was about why we had a different mathbook than in the city. Nobody in my family didn't know the answear, so I thought this wasn’t a good school. I wanted to go to school in Joensuu. Well, then we studied spelling late at night.
