ELVIN KOULUMUISTELMIA
ELVI'S SCHOOL MEMOIR
"No, we didn't get any food, we had
our own packed lunches and milk bottles. The classrooms were heated by burning
wood which boys carried inside. The school had four classes/forms and only one
teacher. There was always a 'loud' lesson with two forms, and a quiet one with
the other two. Some wrote while the others had conversations like this."
"What kinds of subjects did you have
back then?"
"We had RE and calculus. It was
calculus, not mathematics back then. We had essay writing and history and
geography. History was a horrible subject in my opinion, at least geography was
more understandable."
"Nowadays in history they study
stuff like The 2nd World War, but what did you study back then, when those wars
hadn't even taken place yet."
"I don't even actually properly
remember, but it was normal studies we did then. We only had six months of
primary school, then the teacher went to another school to teach and we got to
stay at home for half of the year. My way to school was about two kilometers.
